The Data Purl platform: eCommerce data products for investors
Data Purl provides three data products built from the same standardized dataset: Structured Datafeeds (granular SKU-level price, promotion and availability data mapped to 1,900+ public companies), Ticker Analytics (ready-built company metrics for 400 companies) and Sector Analytics (category-level price and promotion indicators). All three are refreshed weekly and delivered by Snowflake, Amazon S3, the Data Purl portal or partner platforms.
Data products
Structured Datafeeds
Granular weekly records for every tracked product: listed price, full price, discount, availability, first-seen and last-seen dates, standardized category, brand and brand owner, plus ticker where the owner is listed. 1,900+ public companies mapped.
Ticker Analytics
Company-level metrics for 400 listed companies: assortment, average price, markdown and in-stock rates against prior years, with filters by brand, retailer and category.
Sector Analytics
Category composites across about 4,000 categories: inflation and discounting per category, split into same-SKU price moves, new products and mix shift across value, mid-market and premium tiers.
Inside the analytics portal
The portal puts the dataset to work without writing a query: follow your coverage, explore any company or category, and scope extracts for project work.

What makes the data usable
Collecting web data is the easy part. The value is in the transformation applied before the data reaches you:
- One category tree. Every product from every retailer is placed in the same tree of about 4,000 categories, so a category means the same thing at every retailer.
- Brand-to-owner resolution. Brand names spelled differently across retailers, sub-brands and licensed lines are resolved to one brand and one owner.
- Public and private owners. Every brand is resolved to its owner; listed owners are mapped to their securities with acquisition and licensing dates, so history is attributed correctly and backtests avoid look-ahead bias.
- Continuous history. Weekly data back to 2013.
- Unit standardization. Pack sizes are parsed into a net size and unit of measure so prices can be compared per ounce, per 100g or per litre.
