Luxury goods pricing and assortment data

Data Purl tracks luxury and premium brands weekly across their own websites, department stores and online luxury retailers. The data shows list-price increases by market, how much of a brand's range appears discounted at third-party retailers, and how assortment is allocated between channels.

What is tracked

  • List-price changes on identical products over time
  • Discounting of luxury brands at third-party and off-price retailers
  • Assortment allocation between brand sites and wholesale partners
  • Availability and newness by category (leather goods, ready-to-wear, footwear, accessories)

Questions it answers

  • How often, and by how much, has a luxury house raised list prices?
  • Is a brand's product appearing discounted at wholesale partners?
  • Is a brand pulling back from wholesale in favour of its own channels?

Key metrics

  • Matched-SKU inflation: The price change of identical products observed in both periods, which isolates true price moves from changes in product mix.
  • Markdown breadth: The share of a brand's or retailer's live products that are selling below their full price at a point in time.
  • DTC vs wholesale mix: How a brand's online assortment and pricing split between its own direct-to-consumer site and its wholesale retail partners.
  • Channel leakage: Products moving from premium retailers to off-price retailers, a signal of excess inventory and brand-positioning risk.
