Glossary
What is in-stock rate?
The percentage of a brand's or retailer's listed products that are available to buy.
Definition
In-stock rate is the share of listed products that can be purchased. Out-of-stock items remain listed but cannot be bought.
How Data Purl measures it
Data Purl records each SKU's availability flag every week and aggregates it by brand, retailer, category and size where available.
Why it matters
Falling in-stock rates at full price can signal strong demand or supply constraints. Rising in-stock rates alongside rising markdowns usually signal excess inventory.
Pitfalls
- Some retailers hide out-of-stock items rather than flag them, so in-stock rates are most reliable when compared within the same retailer over time.
