What is active product (active assortment)?
A product that is listed on a covered retailer's website in the period, whether or not every size is in stock.
Definition
An active product is one Data Purl observes listed on a covered retailer's site during the period. Active assortment is the count of active products for a brand, retailer or category.
A product stays active while it is listed, even if some or all sizes are out of stock; it stops being active once it is no longer listed.
How Data Purl measures it
Active products are counted from weekly observations of each covered retailer and averaged over the period. First-seen and last-seen dates mark when a product enters and leaves the assortment.
Why it matters
Changes in active assortment show a brand widening or narrowing its range, or a retailer adding or dropping it, before that shows up in reported results.
Pitfalls
- Assortment counts also move when retailers are added to or removed from coverage. Compare like-for-like retailers where possible.
